Metavirome characterization reveals species-specific profiles in Triatominae populations from the southern United States

The metatranscriptomic study focuses on five triatomines native to the southern United States and provides a comprehensive analysis of the associated metaviromes. By characterizing viral communities in both gut and reproductive tissues of T. rubida, T. gerstaeckeri, H. protracta, T. sanguisuga, and T. indictiva, we aim to gain insight into tissue-specific viral diversity and transmission potential. Identifying novel viruses associated with these medically relevant insects may reveal candidates for biological control, as seen with Triatoma virus adversely affects triatomine development and survival
