Lakes from Palermo Raw sequence reads

Freshwater ecosystems, which play a key role in biogeochemical cycles, are subject to different anthropogenic impacts. Understanding microbial communities within these ecosystems is crucial for ecosystem management and conservation. In this study, we utilized metabarcoding analysis targeting bacterial 16S rDNA to investigate the microbial diversity and composition in three Sicilian lakes (Poma, Piana Albanesi, and Scansano). Furthermore, the microbiota of these sites was also compared with the microbiota of water samples from a fountain in the botanical garden to better evaluate both the differences in the microbiota of these sites and the resolving potential of the data obtained.
