资源简介:
We examine the sanitation situation in a rural part of South Africa where recipients of novel, waterless “urine-diverting dry toilets” are not regularly using them. In order to determine if small, conditional cash transfers could motivate families to use their toilets more we tested three different incentive-based interventions. Two of the interventions were based on volumetric pricing (increased payment for increased urine) and one was a flat-rate payment (irrespective of volume). We measured the number of toilet owners that participated in each intervention, the frequency of their participation and their urine production before and during the intervention. The dataset contains 31 variables and 674 observations taken between October 2012 and May 2013 in various communities within the eThekwini Municipality in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
