We heterologously constructed the xylose isomerase pathway in Vibrio sp. dhg by introducing xylA encoding from E. coli. Subsequently, its xylose catabolism was evolutionary optimized, with the unprecedentedly rapid xylose metabolism. The genetic basis for improved xylose utilization in evolved strains was investigated by whole-genome sequencing of strains from selected passages.
