Canadian Gallup Poll, October 1983, #478_4

This Gallup poll seeks the opinions of Canadians, on predominantly political issues. The questions ask opinions about political leaders and political issues within the country and abroad. There are also questions on other topics of interest and importance to the country and government, such as alcoholism, the postal service and the sale of beer in grocery stores. The respondents were also asked questions so that they could be grouped according to geographical and social variables. Topics of interest include: acid restriction on Canadian firms; the approval of Broadbent as NDP leader; the approval of Mulroney as leader of the opposition party; the approval of Trudeau as Prime Minister; Canada-US relations under Ronald Reagan; drinking alcoholic beverages; favouring beer sales in grocery stores; favouring school choices based on language; Federal Quebec relations under Robert Bourassa; improvements in the postal service; the most important problem facing Canada; the most important provincial problems; the seriousness of alcoholism in Canada; and treating alcoholism in hospitals. Basic demographic variables are also included.
