Power analysis for non-normaly distributed traits

An important step in the design of any research experiment is to determine the sample size required to detect an effect. Statistical power is the likelihood that a study will detect an effect when there is an effect to be detected. A power analysis will estimate the sample size required for a given statistical power, effect size and significance level, assuming that your data is normally distributed. But what if your data is skewed, or non-normally distributed? This workshop will show you how to use R to assess if your data is non-normally distributed, how to determine the distribution of your data and how to perform a power analysis appropriate for that distribution.
