Il Cilento di Cosimo De Giorgi. Annotazioni linguistiche

Starting from the annotations taken by in Cosimo De Giorgi in his travel notebook on the Cilento (ms. DeG.144 - Lecce, Biblioteca provinciale "N. Bernardini" and printed edition by G. Galzerano 2016), in this article I develop some linguistic reflections on this transition area. Some evolutionary relations between Northern Cilento dialects and more Southern ones are established on the bases of an archive of speech recordings available online (and resulting from some field experiences conducted between 2016 and 2023 by E. De Marco, S. Di Buono and myself). In addition to reaffirming the individuality of the linguistic Cilento with respect to the southern dialects and the rest of the Campania region (Maturi 2023), the contribution mentions the striking similarities between this transition area and the "symmetrical" area on the Adriatic side observed by the Sallentinian scholar (De Giorgi 1881*2016, page 174).
