With the proliferation of technology, there is a widespread shift towards hands-free communication. This trend has led to the increased utilization of loudspeakers and microphones, replacing the traditional phone receiver for communication. The adoption of hands-free communication allows multiple individuals to engage in conversations simultaneously. However, the use of loudspeakers and microphones introduces the challenge of echo generation due to coupling, resulting in a noisy communication environment. To address this issue, hands-free communication systems incorporate echo cancellers. Echo cancellation is achieved through the implementation of adaptive algorithms. This paper introduces a software solution for echo cancellation in hands-free communications, utilizing a variable step size normalized least mean square algorithm. The proposed solution aims to effectively mitigate echo-related challenges, ensuring clearer and more intelligible communication in hands-free scenarios.
