AMI (Automated Monitoring of Insects) dataset
The AMI dataset was developed by institutions including the Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, aiming to address the challenges of insect diversity and abundance monitoring using automated monitoring technologies. This dataset consists of two components: AMI-GBIF and AMI-Traps. The former includes approximately 2.5 million manually captured images sourced from citizen science platforms and museums, while the latter comprises 2,893 expert-annotated images collected by global automated camera traps, with a total of 52,948 annotated insects. The curation of the AMI dataset involves collecting images from multiple regions across the globe and conducting detailed expert annotations. This dataset is primarily utilized in the field of ecology, particularly for automated insect species identification and monitoring, to tackle the issue of declining insect diversity.
