资源简介:
BCI 50-ha Plot Taxonomy The 50-ha plot at Barro Colorado Island was
initially demarcated and fully censused in 1982, and has been fully
censused 7 times since, every 5 years from 1985 through 2015 (Hubbell and
Foster 1983, Hubbell et al. 1990, Condit et al. 2012, Condit et al. 2017).
The taxonomic component required repeated collecting and sorting so that
every individual could be matched to a previously described species from
Croat (1978). Over 300 taxa were separated and all but 8 of those
identified to species. After the 8th census in 2015, a total of 328 tree
taxa have been documented in the plot, though the number alive in any one
census has been less. Taxonomy of tropical plants is still in a state of
flux because many of the groups have not been studied in detail for
decades, and new treatments, especially those using DNA phylogenies,
invariably lead to revision and reidentification. To maintain the 50-ha
plot up-to-date with recent taxonomy, we have had to make numerous changes
to the original list of 300 species. In Condit et al. (1996) we listed
every species and added an Appendix documenting revisions done up until
that date. In Condit et al. (2004), another species list was provided, but
with no list of revisions. Many other papers mention some species, but
none since list all species. Here we provide a complete list with updates
since 2004, and with it a list of all obsolete names ever used with a
match to the current valid name. We acknowledge, of course, that taxonomy
continues and further revisions will be inevitable. The data were frozen
as of 1 May 2019, so users will always be able to consult the 2019
version. It updates a 2017 archive with the same format
(https://doi.org/10.25570/stri/10088/32990). The same taxonomic tables
also appear online in a searchable and sortable format designed to let
users explore the data easily
(http://conditdatacenter.org/taxonomy/BCI/BCIPlotFullTaxonomy.php). That
web site, however, is maintained by one of the PIs and is not guaranteed
to be permanent, that is, after he retires from the project it will
disappear. Taxonomy updated and several corrections: 12 November 2019.
