Root rot reshapes the rhizosphere and root microbiome structure of field pea in commercial crop production systems

Understanding how root and rhizosphere microbiomes are affected by plant health is vital for developing sustainable crop production systems. Here we studied the root and rhizosphere microbiomes of healthy and root rot-infected pea (Pisum sativum L.) samples collected at early flowering from nine commercial fields across Saskatchewan, Canada using amplicon metagenomic sequencing. We used Illumina MiSeq sequencing to characterize the bacterial/archaeal, fungal, and oomycete communities.
