资源简介:
The Fort A.P. Hill Cultural Resource Manager, under the Environmental Division of the Directorate of Public Works within Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, has completed Phase I archaeological survey in association with proposed development of training facilities at Powers Road corner at Fort A.P. Hill, Caroline County, Virginia. The proposed training facilities will consist of Conex storage boxes placed at the intersection of Powers and Hood roads. Although the Conex boxes will be placed on the ground surface, some excavation may be required to level the boxes. The area of potential effect for this project was defined as an approximately 2.6-hectare (6.3-acre) area that includes the potential Conex box locations and the reported location of previously recorded archaeological site 44CE0364.
The objective of the archaeological survey was to identify any historic properties that may be located within the APE and evaluate the potential eligibility of any such resources for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. As a result of the investigations, one previously recorded archaeological site (44CE0364) was identified in the APE.
Site 44CE0364 represents a disturbed late nineteenth-/early twentieth-century trash deposit and a prehistoric surface scatter of lithic artifacts. The site lacks integrity and does not appear to have the potential to yield additional information important in history or prehistory. Consequently, Site 44CE0364 is recommended not eligible for inclusion in the National Register under Criterion D. Owing to the lack of site integrity, Site 44CE0364 is also recommended not eligible for inclusion in the National Register under Criteria A, B, and C.
