Genome sequencing of three Northern German Epidemic Staphylococcus aureus strains. Staphylococcus aureus

The project comprises three Staphylococcus aureus subsp. aureus strains that belong to the Northern German epidemic MRSA strain (ST247, CC8) and were isolated in the early 1990s. All strains contain multiple copies of IS256. S. aureus 1450/94 is a typical MRSA and served as control, whereas S. aureus 137/93A (MRSA) shows decreased susceptibility to vancomycin. S. aureus 137/93G is a laboratory mutant of strain A, which has lost methicillin resistance and increased its vancomycin resistance.
