Water Energy Food (WEF) Security in South Africa - data collection

This dataset is part of a research project on spatial inequality in Water Energy Food (WEF) security (https://sarva.saeon.ac.za/wefh-nexus/), the implications on public health and the impacts of climate change. This dataset contains data on water, energy and food security on a municipal level (local and metropolitan municipalities, n=213) for South Africa. Security is defined here as good availability, accessibility, affordability and acceptability (“4A’s”) of each of the resources. The final dataset thus gives municipal scores from 0-1 for twelve domains (each a combination of a resource ( i.e., water, energy and food) and a security dimension (i.e., the 4A’s)). The dataset accompanies a scientific publication titled “A framework for spatially quantifying household-level Water-Energy-Food security: application to South Africa”, which is still to be published. Intermediate datasets at household level or per security dimension include raw variables, normalised and/or aggregated variables.
