Shidhal or chepa shutki is one of the major traditional fermented fishery products of Bangladesh where a large part of Bangladeshi people use it as various food items. It is a salt-free, solid, semi-fermented fish product which is mainly popular among Bangladeshi citizens. The Shidhal is prepared from a small sized fish Puntius sp and also known as seedal, seepa, hidal and shidal. In Chittagong Hill Tracts it is called "Berma". A large number of people from Mymensingh, Netrokona, Kishorgonj, Bhrammonbaria, Jamalpur, Tangail, greater Sylhet, Narsingdi and hilly regions of Chittagong are frequently involved with this semi-fermented product production and marketing and it plays a significant role in the socio-economy.
