経済協力開発機構（OECD）の加盟国で磁気共鳴画像（MRI）の人口100万人当たりの保有台数が最も多かったのは日本で、100万人当たり約57台となっています。米国と韓国がそれに続き、それぞれ100万人当たり約28台と約36台のMRIを保有しています。対照的に、メキシコやコロンビア共和国といった国々が保有するMRIの台数は、100万人当たりおよそ3台と0.2台なっています。画像診断装置の普及率は、一国の医療インフラ水準の指標とすることができます。 
MRIの用途 
放射線の代わりに磁場と電波を活用するMRIスキャンの発明は、画像診断に革命をもたらしました。CTスキャンやX線検査に使用される電離放射線は、患者に有害な影響をもたらす恐れがありますが、MRIの大きな強みは放射線を使わない点です。MRI検査の主な用途は、臓器や軟部組織、靭帯など、見えにくい部位の画像診断です。一方で、コンピュータ断層撮影（CT）スキャンは、骨の構造を撮影する目的で使用されることが多いとされます。MRIスキャンの主要なメーカーには、ゼネラル・エレクトリック（General Electric）、シーメンス（Siemens）、日立、フィリップス（Philips）が挙げられます。 
MRIの費用 
MRIは、1度のスキャンで最大4千ドル（CTスキャンの2倍）の費用が発生します。また、MRI装置の価格は15万ドルから数百万ドルに及ぶことから、病院や診療所にとって大きな投資となる可能性があり、設置費用やメンテナンス費用にも留意が必要です。 

In the member countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Japan had the highest number of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines per million people, with approximately 57 machines per million. The United States and South Korea followed with around 28 and 36 MRI machines per million, respectively. In contrast, countries such as Mexico and the Republic of Colombia have significantly fewer MRI machines, with approximately 3 and 0.2 machines per million, respectively. The prevalence of imaging diagnostic devices can serve as an indicator of a country's healthcare infrastructure level.  MRI Applications  The invention of MRI scans using magnetic fields and radio waves instead of ionizing radiation has revolutionized medical imaging. Unlike CT scans or X-ray examinations that use harmful ionizing radiation, the major strength of MRI is its non-use of radiation. The primary applications of MRI examinations are for the imaging diagnosis of difficult-to-see areas such as organs, soft tissues, and ligaments. On the other hand, computerized tomography (CT) scans are often used for imaging the structure of bones. The major manufacturers of MRI scanners include General Electric, Siemens, Hitachi, and Philips.  MRI Costs  MRI scans can incur costs of up to 4,000 dollars per scan (twice the cost of a CT scan). Moreover, the price of MRI equipment can range from 150,000 to several million dollars, making it a significant investment for hospitals and clinics, and attention must be paid to installation and maintenance costs.
