Interaction of Mesonivirus and Negevirus with different arboviruses in mosquito-derived cells

Mosquitoes can be infected with both mosquito-specific viruses (MSVs) and arboviruses. Examples of widely distributed MSVs are Mesoniviruses (MeSVs) and Negeviruses (NeVs). RNA interference (RNAi) is one of the major antiviral responses in mosquitoes. The RNAi pathway is able to interfere with virus infections in mosquitoes. RNAi is a sequence-specific break down response which is divided into different pathways depending on the small RNA molecules involved. Both MeSV and NeV are known to be abundantly present in mosquitoes and infect several mosquito species worldwide, including mosquitoes that can be vectors to arboviruses of medical importance. Information regarding the interaction of MeSV/NeV on arboviruses, either co-infected or sequentially infected are very limited. In addition, it is not known if MeSV/NeV triggers an RNAi response in the mosquito host.
