VPRS 14540 Advances to Lessees, Closer Settlement Act 1904

This series records advances made to lessees under all sections of the Closer Settlement Act 1904. Details given are the name of the estate upon which the leasehold was situated, the amount advanced to the settler, the term and the interest rate with the lease number and the date. Also given are the name and address of the settler and the location of the land, the approval of the advance and details of payments made to the settler.Closer Settlement Acts allowed for the payment of advances to settlers for the erection of buildings, for fencing, for the purchase of implements and stock and for other defined purposes. The amount able to be obtained and the terms of repayment were set forth in the Acts with the Closer Settlement Board able to take a lien or mortgage or other security to ensure repayment of the advance.
