Field Crop Boundaries

Data on field crop extent and type of cultivation was obtained from DAFF for the whole of South Africa. This was reviewed for consistency of description and corrected as required, and provincial data sets combined into a national data set. Original data was generated in 2006 using 2006 SPOT 5, colour merge, 2.5 meters imagery. On screen digitising with photo interpretation from SPOT 5 colour merge at 2.5 meter resolution at a scale of 1:50000. Fields were added to categorise type of cultivation into `Formal` and `Informal`, and whether it would be available for additional agricultural production.
