Extrachromosomal circular DNAs (eccDNAs) occur in mostly all eukaryotes and are likely to play roles in stress, cancer and aging, thus have been prime targets in recent research. The ECCsplorer is a bioinformatics pipeline (available on GitHub) to detect eccDNAs in any kind of organism or tissue using next-generation sequencing data. The derived eccDNA targets are valuable for a wide range of downstream investigations – from analysis of cancer-related eccDNAs over organelle genomics to identification of active transposable elements. To evaluate the ECCsplorer pipeline circSeq (mobilome-seq) data was created from inflorescences of Beta vulgaris ssp. vulgaris.
