Spiral ganglion data for bowhead whales samples, 2010 to 2020, from Bering-Chukchi-Beaufort Seas

These data are count of neurons in the ear of 8 bowhead whales. The whales were sampled in Spring and Fall by Inupiat Alaskans as permitted under the Endangered Species Act and Marine Mammal Protection Act, for subsistence. The neuron counts and measurements are listed for each sample of each individual. These neurons die after serious sound exposure. These were used as indicators for hearing damage that occurred in life.
