Reaction species in batch reactions using whole-cell catalyst and various substrate aldehydes.

Whole-cell DERA catalyst was used (DERA specific activity = 232 kRFU s−1 g−1, WCW = 207 g L−1). Data are given as GC-FID peak area after 60 minutes after addition of the substrates, and calculated to molar concentration (mmol L−1, in brackets) where isolated reference material was available. There was no considerable change in reaction-species concentration after 60 min (reaction was followed up to 180 min) indicating loss of DERA activity early in the reaction.*presumably 2,6-chloro-2,4-dideoxyhexose.
