Sediment slurries taken from the Pacific Ocean and Bering Sea were treated with the antibiotic mitomycin C to stimulate prophage induction. Possible changes of prokaryotic community structures in response to the viral activity were identified by Illumina sequencing of 16S rRNA genes and transcripts.
