COPING MECHANISMS AMONG GRADE 12 STEM STUDENTS OF DAVAO CHRISTIAN HIGH SCHOOL

This research paper, titled "Coping Mechanisms Among Grade 12 STEM Students of Davao Christian High School," investigates the coping strategies employed by students at Davao Christian High School in the Philippines. The study uses a descriptive qualitative design, employing in-depth interviews with 10 Grade 12 STEM students to understand how they manage the academic pressures and personal stressors they face. The research identifies seven key themes: Seeking Support and Assistance, Emotional Regulation and Mindfulness, Effective Study Strategies, Utilization of Resources, Self-Initiated Learning, Effective Communication and Collaboration, and Time Management and Organization. The study discusses these themes in relation to existing literature on coping mechanisms among STEM students, highlighting the importance of each theme in supporting student well-being and academic success. The researchers conclude that understanding and acknowledging the diverse coping mechanisms employed by STEM students is crucial for providing effective support and fostering a conducive learning environment. They emphasize the need for educators, policymakers, and institutions to provide tailored support services that meet the specific needs of STEM students and recognize individual differences. The study recommends further research to explore coping mechanisms in different contexts and cultural settings to enhance support systems and interventions for STEM students.
