The aim of this project is to investigate the two representative FTCAs' (6:2 FTCA, and 5:3 FTCA) biotransformation and biodefluorination processes in activated sludge collected from four municipal WWTPs in the New York metropolitan area.Microbial populations that may contribute to FTCA biotransformation and biodefluorination were investigated by 16S rRNA amplicon-based sequencing and bioinformatics analysis based on the shifting of the relative abundances of these taxa in response to the FTCA exposure.
