We have analyzed 101 full mtDNA sequences from wild boars from Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, Hungary and Russia. Wy have obtained 29 different haplotypes. We analysed newly obtained 101 sequences of complete mtDNA genomes of wild boar and combined them with previously published data. We identified five phylogenetic clades in Europe with clear phylogeographic pattern. Two of them occurred mainly in western and central part of the continent, while the range of the third was the largest and covered the Western Siberia and eastern, central and the south-eastern Europe. Other two had more restricted distribution. In the central Europe we identified a contact zone of three mtDNA clades. The contribution of mtDNA lineages from eastern LGM refugia in postglacial recolonization of central and eastern Europe was probably larger than well-known southern LGM refugial populations of this species. Population genetic structure reflected the phylogeographic pattern of wild boar in this part of Europe.
