Treatment of MoCl3(thf)3 with LiSC6H3-2,6-(SiMe3)2 (LiSAr) resulted in formation of the π-sandwiched bis-arylthiolato complex, Mo{η5-SC6H3-2,6-(SiMe3)2}{η7-SC6H3-2,6-(SiMe3)2} (1), while the analogous reaction with LiSC6H3-2-Ph-6-SiMe3 afforded the trithiolate complex Mo(SC6H3-2-Ph-6-SiMe3)3 (3). The acetonitrile adduct Mo(SAr)2(CH3CN)3 (2) was isolated from the CH3CN solution of 1, in which one acetonitrile is coordinated to the metal center in an η2-fashion. Structures of 1, 2, and 3 have been determined by X-ray diffraction.
