Large rivers serve as hotspot for biogeochemical cycling of nutrients in which the role of microorganisms is crucial. Bacterial diversity and community composition studies in such habitats aid in understanding the dynamics, functioning and sustainability of the system. No studies have addressed the bacterial community composition of Himalayan Rivers and their associated ecosystem towards the southern slope, Nepal. Thus, community compositions and diversity of particle-attached (PA) and free-living bacteria (FL) was investigated in 24 sampling sites along the mainstream and major tributaries of Koshi River using Illumina next generation sequencing.
