Woman head

Beige-brown micaceous clay that is blackish at the core. Small remains of the white coating. The head, obtained from two molds, is broken at the neck. The nose was cut off, the left cheek badly rubbed off. The surface shows numerous small holes. A piece of the neck has apparently broken off in a modern attempt to drill a pin hole for attachment.The head is tilted slightly to one side. The face shows an elongated oval shape with large cheek areas and very narrow eyes. The hair, parted in the middle, is pulled back in loose strands and to the top of the head, where it is tied up in a large bow. At the back, the hair is led in two thick bundles of hair to the hair bow. The hairstyle with the high-tied hair bow can be found from Hellenistic times to the Roman Empire. However, the airy, dynamically modeled design of the hair speaks for a dating to the Hellenistic period.
