S. hominis is a ubiquitous healthy human skin colonizer, yet little is known about this organism or its functions in colonization resistance. There are few fully sequenced and assembled S. hominis genomes. Our ultimate goal is to understand how the genetic characteristics of S. hominis make it such a common skin colonizer and how this organism can protect the skin from opportunistic pathogen colonization or damage.
