Bergamot and Laoxianghuang (fermented from bergamot) are used in traditional Chinese medicine and food-based products because of their therapeutic value. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of bergamot polysaccharide (BP) and Laoxianghuang polysaccharides (LPs) on gut microbiota. The present study provided information about discrepancy in the regulation of gut microbiota and metabolome by BP and LPs. It may contribute to the development of BP and LPs as prebiotics in healthy foods.
