Mobile Phone Disposal

Lack of proper disposal routes and infrastructure in Africa is the primary cause of low e-waste recycling (Grant & Oteng-Ababio 2016). A number of studies have examined existing and desired e-waste disposal options (Maes, & Preston-Whyte, 2022; Bimir, 2020; Oteng-Ababio & Grant, 2020) and concluded that providing WMPs disposal mediums will result in a considerable increase in WMPs disposal and recycling rates. However, this proposal ignores the population's hoarding and clutter behavior, which have a substantial impact on disposal rates (Nowakowski, 2019; Nasir, 2017). This study used students at the University of Education in Winneba, Ghana, as a case study to assess the effects of hoarding and cluttering of WMPs in Ghana if disposal alternatives are accessible. Students were chosen as a research group due to the high percentage of mobile phone users among them, as well as the fact that they represent a wide range of socioeconomic groups from all around Ghana.
All undergraduate students at the three campuses of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) in the Winneba municipality comprised the study's target group. The study team had access to WhatsApp on behalf of the 6200 Social Science Faculty students, making them the accessible population. With the assistance of the platform administrators, a digital questionnaire was created and uploaded on the students' WhatsApp accounts. Because WhatsApp is the most popular and widely utilized method of information transmission among students on campus, it was chosen as the platform for the distribution of the questionnaire. The study team invited administrators of the students' WhatsApp platforms to upload the electronic questionnaire each morning and evening throughout the one-week data gathering period. A total of 526 respondents had completed the internet survey by the conclusion of the week.
