Genetic approaches to reduce the nitrogen dilution effect and increase nitrogen use efficiency in wheat

The project will dissect the genetic architecture of a high GPC Australian wheat cultivars, of which the high GPC mechanism has been tentatively characterised. Additional gene resources will also be surveyed and studied to meet various demands from different wheat production regions across Australia. The project will also study the metabolomics and proteomics networks in relation to the nitrogen remobilisation from leaf to grain. A unique international high NUE/GPC germplasm acquisition component is also included in this project.
