资源简介:
The prime purpose of this series is the provision of train timetables on the various lines plotting the journey of each train by showing against each station name the time at which the train arrived there. The type of train including 'passenger', 'mail', or 'mixed' is often indicated. There are numerous appendices giving information relevant to local districts. These provide details about the following: signalling, locomotives, stations and distances between stations, platforms, sidings and level crossings. Disorganisation of suburban traffic such as delays and accidents, communications, propelling water trains, loading of coal and colliery sidings, refreshment room requirements, safety procedures such as fire alarm telephones, reporting and security. Some appendices also contain a list of Inspectors and Officers employed in the following branches: Traffic Branch, Locomotive Branch, Electrical Branch, Signalling Branch and Permanent Way Branch. The first volume in this series consists of a typescript reproduction of timetables for the various lines during 1855-1889 arranged in chronological order. The pages are headed 'early time tables' or 'early railway time tables' There are no local appendices in this volume which is not indexed. Many of the volumes in this series are individually indexed. The formats of the series are ring binders, books, manila folders and loose pages. There is a chronological arrangement.Custody History From 1955 until 2000 the State Rail Authority of New South Wales maintained an 'in house archives' consisting of the archival records of Authority, its predecessor agencies and the private railway companies taken over by the government. The date ranges of the records were from 1849 until 2000. When the decision was made to close the 'State Rail Archives' the parts of the collection that were required as State Archives were transferred to the State Records Authority of NSW. Those record series were incorporated into the State Records series system of archives control and were re-numbered. This series was formerly part of the State Rail Archives collection where it was identified as series R64. It may have been reviewed in the State Rail Archives as series R64 and could have been previously cited as such in notes by researchers at State Rail Archives or in publications or unpublished works.
