Coastal and transitional waters (WFD) Lower Saxony

The smallest demarcated hydrological level of the EC Water Framework Directive (WFD) is the water body (WFD).Coastal water bodies have been designated for the assessments under the WFD from the coastline to the 1 SM line and furthermore for the chemical assessment up to the territorial limit.Transitional waters under the WFD are the surface water bodies near river estuaries, which have a certain salinity due to their proximity to the coastal waters, but are mainly influenced by freshwater currents.In addition to the Lower Saxony waters, the other waters and water bodies affected by Lower Saxony are also depicted. The water body characterization and evaluation is integrated with results of the assessment of the overall ecological status/potential and the overall chemical status for the creation of topic maps as an attribute.
