Data files This dataset contains four files for “Size and dispersal-related traits have not evolved, but warmer developmental temperatures have implications for movement of Pieris rapae butterflies in urban landscapes” Mass_2019.csv contains data on the dried body mass of F1 butterflies from Experiment 1 (2019). Mass_2022.csv contains data on the total dried body mass and the body mass of body segments (head, thorax, abdomen) of F1 butterflies from Experiment 2 (2022). Wingarea_2019.csv contains data on the area of the wing surfaces of F1 butterflies from Experiment 1 (2019). Wingarea_2022.csv contains data on the area of the wing surfaces of F1 butterflies from Experiment 2 (2022). Details on the experiments and data generation can be found in the associated publication. Variable definitions ID: identification code of F1 butterfly temp_treat: average temperature in °C experienced during development for F1 offspring sex: sex of F1 butterfly (F = female, M = male) mom: identification code of the female mother in the parental generation location: site name where the parental generation mother was caught urb_level: three-level factor (low, med, high) describing the urbanization level of the location where the mother was caught mass_mg: dried total body mass of the F1 offspring in milligrams mass_head_mg: dried mass of the head body segment of F1 offspring in milligrams (only in Mass_2022.csv). mass_thorax_mg: dried mass of the thorax body segment of F1 offspring in milligrams (only in Mass_2022.csv). mass_abdomen_mg: dried mass of the thorax body segment of F1 offspring in milligrams (only in Mass_2022.csv). wing: the type of wing being measured (fore = forewing, hind = hindwing) side: the side of the body that the wing is from (R = right, L = left; only in Wingarea_2022.csv) area_cm2: the area of the focal wing of F1 offspring in centimeters squared year – year of experiment
