资源简介:
`Abstract Description:The planning domain for the Greater Cederberg Biodiversity Corridor project. Description of Purpose: To demonstrate the geographic boundaries of the Greater Cederberg Biodiversity Corridor Project. Lineage Description: Initially the boundary of the GCBC began with the proposed `Cederberg Mega Reserve Boundary` which was based on the 1999 C.A.P.E Irreplaceability Values. All of the Cederberg Expert Maps ( Produced in the initial stage of the GCBC project) were overlayed with this boundary. A new boundary line was then drawn around the hotspot areas identified by the experts. The outlier areas were not included. Subsequently, all the vegetation types within and immediately adjacent to the proposed planning domain and along the Olifants River in the, North East were selected and a generalised boundary was created using these parameters. The Swartland Shale Renosterveld was not included as this area forms part of the Botanical Society`s Renosterveld Finescale Plan. Quaternary catchment boundaries were used to cut out this vegetation type. In the Tanqua Karoo, a combination of quaternary catchments and 20m contour lines were used to create a new boundary line. In the, North, outliers of Vanrhynsdorp Gannabos were excluded. The, Northern line was created using vegetation type boundaries and quatenary catchments. The Western part of the boundary line is made up of vegetation type boundaries and the coastline. The resultant planning domain was presented to Jaco Venter and Jaco Rheede of the Cederberg management team and subsequently the following changes were made to the boundary: The area around the Olifants River (in the vicinity of Vredendal) was excluded as it was felt it should form part of a separate project. For management purposes, the entire extent of the Grootwintershoek Provincial Reserve was included. Due to the level of involvement of South African National Parks in the GCBC Project, the entire Tanqua Karoo National Park was included.
