Digital Archive from an Archaeological Field Evaluation at Croft Road, Cosby, Leicestershire, January 2024

This collection comprises image, text, spreadsheet and CAD data from an Archaeological Field Evaluation on land at Croft Road, Cosby, Leicestershire. Fieldwork was undertaken by University of Leicester Archaeological Services in January 2024 and was followed by post-excavation and reporting. A total of four trenches each circa 30 metres long were opened. Limited archaeological activity dating to the first half of the 2nd century was revealed in Trench 1, located close to the site's northern boundary. A shallow ditch running broadly east-west produced a substantial quantity of pottery, likely representing a single refuse dump. This may suggest the features lies in the vicinity of a domestic settlement, possibly located on the rise a short distance north of the study area. The remainder of the evaluation trenches were archaeologically blank.
