Patterns of population expansion observed in the Tree bumblebee (B. hypnorum) represent a counter example to general trends of population decline observed globally in bumblebees. In this experiment the genetic signature of the range expansion of B. hypnorum was investigated using a RAD-seq approach for pools of 40 individuals at each of six locations in the UK an one in continental Europe. This data was used to re-construct the most likely pattern of colonisation of the UK by B. hypnorum and identify signatures of selection in colonising populations.
