WCLD

The WCLD dataset is a large-scale criminal case dataset developed by the Center for Law and Economics at ETH Zurich, covering over 1.5 million case records from the Wisconsin Circuit Courts in the United States spanning from 1970 to 2020. The dataset comprehensively records a diverse set of attributes including prior criminal offense counts, recidivism outcomes, gender, age at the time of trial and at first offense, as well as race, community characteristics, crime types, charge severity, case dispositions, and sentence lengths. Additionally, the dataset contains pseudonymous identifiers for judges, counties, and zip codes, as well as neighborhood-level features extracted from census data. The WCLD dataset not only enables rigorous research on algorithmic fairness in the context of criminal justice, but also allows for linking algorithmic challenges to various systemic issues, serving as a rich data resource for academic research.
