Archival XMM-Newton data has advanced Solar Wind Charge Exchange (SWCX)research contributing to major breakthroughs including the concept of the SoftX-Ray Imager (SXI) for the upcoming SMILE mission. SXI will pioneer magnetopausedynamics imaging using soft X-ray emissions when it launches in 2025.Leveraging unprecedented observing conditions in this AO and the high spectralresolution of the EPIC suite of cameras we propose an XMM-Newton observation ofthe Earths magnetosheath subsolar region to provide context for future SXIdata. We will characterize the SWCX spectrum in the context of the incomingsolar wind and accompanied by magnetohydrodynamic or kinetic particlesimulations of the magnetosphere we will constrain the influence of a variable exosphere to the X-ray emission.
