资源简介:
As part of the TransAntarctic Expedition, the Victoria Land mountain chain extending from Cape Adare to the Horlick Mountains was surveyed during the 1957-1959 field seasons. Two large unmapped areas remained. In the 1959-1960 season The area between the Nimrod and Beardmore Glaciers was surveyed and geological investigations were conducted. Samples were collected along the entire route and the geological was examined and described. The survey scheme consisted of the setting up of eleven inland survey stations and eleven stations on the coast. At each station panoramas were sketched, horizontal angles were measured, barometer readings were taken to check heights, circum-meridian and ex-meridian observations were taken, carins were built, panorama photographs were taken at 15° intervals, stereoscopic pairs of photographs were taken at most stations and time checks were made before setting out to occupy a station. All field books, working plots, astrafoil graticules, ethulon overlays and traces, computation sheets, photographs and film were sent to New Zealand Lands and Survey.
