Replication Dataset for the Study on Technical Debt in GenAI-Enabled Software Projects

This dataset supports a research study investigating technical debt (TD) in GenAI-enabled software projects. It includes the final taxonomy comprising 9 main TD categories and 39 observable symptom categories, together with their definitions, category boundaries, observable TD symptoms, and associated root causes identified from the interview data. The dataset also includes a literature-positioning analysis that compares the identified observable TD symptoms with related findings from prior software engineering, ML/AI, and GenAI literature, indicating whether the observed problems persist from earlier contexts or manifest differently in GenAI-enabled systems. In addition, the dataset provides participant demographics (N=18), information on 16 unique GenAI projects, company-level characteristics, and participant–project mappings. Certain sensitive or potentially identifying information has been intentionally omitted or anonymized to preserve participant confidentiality.
