This dataset contains observations collected during the CALYPSO (Coherent Lagrangian Pathways from the Surface Ocean to Interior) campaign, conducted aboard the R/V Pourquoi Pas? in the northern edge of the Western Alboran Gyre (Western Mediterranean Sea) between March 28 and April 11, 2019. The campaign aimed to investigate subduction features near the unstable front that developed along the gyre’s northern boundary. Measurements were obtained using a SeaBird 911plus Conductivity Temperature Depth (CTD) profiler, a Teledyne RD Instruments Underway Conductivity Temperature Depth (UCTD) profiler, a free-falling microstructure profiler (MSS90D; Sea & Sun Technology), and a hull-mounted Teledyne RDI Ocean Surveyor Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP). The data is organized into five transects (T1-T5) used in the study, with all instruments including metadata variables such as latitude (lat, [°N]), longitude (lon, [°E]), depth (z, [m]), and time (time [matlab datenum format]). The UCTD dataset contains variables such as Conservative Temperature (ct, [°C]), Absolute Salinity (as, [g kg-1]), potential density anomaly (rho, [kg m-3]), Brunt–Väisälä frequency (n2, [s-2]), spice anomaly (spice, [kg m-3]), Turner angle (Turner, [°]), mixed layer depth (mld, [m]), upper (intrusion_ub, [m]) and lower boundaries of intrusions (intrusion_lb, [m]), isopycnal strain (strain, []), and Richardson number (richardson, []). The ADCP dataset includes current magnitude (magnitude, [m s-1]), current direction (direction, [°]), Ertel potential vorticity (pv, [s-3]), and shear squared (shear, [s-2]). The CTD dataset provides measurements of dissolved oxygen (oxy, [mg l-1]) and chlorophyll-a concentrations (chl, [mg m-3]), while the MSS dataset includes turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rates (tke, log10 [W kg-1]), pseudo turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rates (ptke, log10 [W kg-1]), diffusivity estimates (diff, [m2 s-1]), turbulent fluxes of heat (HF, [W m-2]), salt (SF, [kg m-2 s-1]), oxygen (OF, [mg m-2 s-1]), and chlorophyll-a (CF, [mg m-2 s-1]).
