Water from different depths was prefiltered in situ using Salsa pump or collected in CTD bottled before being filtered onboard to retain small cell sizes or nucleic acids (DNA/RNA). Nucleic acids (DNA or RNA) were extracted and submitted to metagenomic library preparation.
