Ecology Lab 3

This experiment was conducted on Thursday October 2nd, 2014 at the Danby grassland and woodlot in York University’s Keele Campus. The temperature was 19 oC. The experiment began by randomly placing 10 bowls, separated into white, blue, and yellow colours, approximately 1 meter apart in each field. Each bowl was filled with soapy water to attract and trap insects. The bowls were left for 2 hours and 15 minutes to collect insects. The bowls were then collected and the number and type of insect contained in each one was recorded. the reason for collecting data was to estimate the abundance and diversity of flying insects.
