The pure culture Trichlorobacter ammonificans G1 (former taxonomoy Geobacter ammonificans G1) is an acetate-dependent ammonifier isolated from activated sludge with acetate as electron donor under nitrate-limited conditions. It is an extremely specialized ammonifier, actively growing only with acetate as e-donor and C source and nitrate as e-acceptor. The genome analysis of strain G1 demonstrated absence of the classical NrfAH/NrfABCD ammonifying modules. Instead, a locus encoding full Nap operon immediately followed by an octaheme cytochrome c was identified.
