MERGING GROUPS A2197W AND A2197E

We propose to observe the two merging galaxy groups that comprise Abell 2197,which optically mimics a rich, nearby (z0.03) cluster. While severalclustercluster mergers have been studied in great detail, groupgroup mergersremain poorly understood. Combined with archival XMMNewton and Chandraobservations, these observations also will complete a survey of bound subsystemsin the A2199 supercluster where A2197W and A2197E reside.
