NRS-16848 | Register of Admission, Progress and Withdrawal [Hebden Public School]

The purpose of an admission register was to record basic details about children admitted to the school, and about their parents or guardians. The registers were also used to record the progress of the children through various classes and the date of their leaving the school.This volume contains information pertaining to each pupil including: date of admission; pupil's name; date of birth; religious denomination; name of previous school and date of leaving. The following details are recorded about the child's parents or guardians: name, residence and occupation. The pupil's date of admission to each subsequent grade, date of leaving the school and any occupation entered into on leaving school are also recorded; this last column is also used to indicate the school to which a pupil may have transferred. Girls and boys are listed on opposite pages in order of admission.The series from Hebden Public School is currently represented by a single volume. This volume contains entries recording admissions from 1915 until the closure of the school in 1973; however, all entries dated prior to the beginning of 1921 are retrospective, and cover only those enrolments still current at that time. An earlier record of admissions, therefore, once existed, from which these retrospective entries have been copied. Boys’ and girls’ enrolments are numbered consecutively, in two sequences, from the beginning of the volume until 1955; from 1956 onwards enrolments are numbered in one sequence without reference to gender, and the numbering begins anew with each school year.
