Acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND) is a severe shrimp disease that has caused heavy losses to the global shrimp farming industry. It is caused by certain virulent strains of Vibrio parahaemolyticus, namely AHPND-causing V. parahaemolyticus (VPAHPND). Strain 20130629002S01, isolated in June of 2013 from AHPND-affected Litopenaeus vannamei in a shrimp farm in China, is a VPAHPND isolate carrying pirABvp genes, which are known virulence factors causing AHPND. Genome sequencing of 20130629002S01 can provide timely information for better understanding of genomic characteristics of the pathogen.
